Microbiology Students Kick off the Year with Sports Activities

Students from Nairobi University Microbiology Students Association have begun the year with enthusiastic sporting energy . The students kick-started the new year with sport challenges comprising football matches and board games.

Student members from (NUMSA) as well as Chiromo Environment Awareness Club (CEAC) took part in team building exercises, football matches and board games during the February 13, 2016 fun day.

The fun day aimed to serve as an informal interactive platform for the members to enhance association and to build individual and team skills.

Two teams competitively played against each other in pulsating football matches; second year verses fourth years and first years verses third years.

The University of Nairobi prides itself as the best University in the region churning out wholistic graduates through its academia and extra-curricular activities. With facilities such as a swimming pool, rugby pitch, football pitch, basketball and volley pitches, students can take part in a myriad of sports and games.  

In 2015, the University re-launched its Rugby teams (Mean-Machine) and Basketball teams Terrorists (Men) and Dynamites (Women).  This is a move to enhance performance in these sports as major face-lift of existing sports facilities, replenishing kits and equipment and mobilizing resources continues. The Vice-chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi, also revealed plans to award scholarships to best sports students who will be trained by a revamped team of experienced coaches.

Under the leadership of Mr. Mbaabu Murithi , Director Sports University of Nairobi, ascertains that the mandate of the sports department is to ensure that students are provided with sports and games services at both recreational and competitive levels. 

NUMSA student organization is among diverse student organizations led by student-leaders with the guide of a patron, a lecturer from the department. Each department has an established student organization whose leadership steer the students to participate in sports activities, enhance academic specialization by taking part in training as well as internal and external competitions and community development through corporate social responsibility and outreach activities. NUMSA is among seventeen College of Biological and Physical Sciences student organizations.
