The event was mainly aimed at making the first years feel welcome and have time to interact amongst them following the disruptions of the orientation’s week by the lectures’ strike when they would otherwise interact with each other and get exposed to the campus life.
The event, under the theme ‘combating social evils’ was also meant to provide space for fresher’s to engage with other undergraduate community on campus and at the same time bring awareness that students shall engage themselves in helpful activities, e.g. joining favorite clubs, sports, leadership…etc available on campus than getting involved in wicked ones i.e. drugs ,bad company… which shall lead them to regret in the end.
The event, which was facilitated by ONUSS, was also aimed at ensuring that students know more about ONUSS and its functions as science students’ organization.
The event was attended by around 200 plus first years and almost 50 other participants who were not first years.
The participants engaged in conversation with student organizations’ officials (ONUSS Officials) and learning more about the organization.
The event was successfully and peacefully held and the participants enjoyed the event as they were able to interact and know more about ONUSS and its function as students organization body.
From the sample survey conducted by the event committee 3 out of 4 participants said that the event was beneficial and should be repeated every year.
CHALLENGES AND REACTIONS
The event committee was faced with a task of sourcing funds from the college on-time, as a lengthy procurement process was involved.
The committee was forced to source part of the funds elsewhere on credit to pay for items like publicity posters and deposits.
Next time, the committee shall try to source funds from sponsors other than the college as the amount provided by the college was insufficient for a bigger and a better event.
