All Set, Innovative Startups Pitch, Hackathons Commence in the Biggest Annual Innovation Event, NIW 2018

Startup innovators have already set up centre stage as the fourth Innovation event in the region kicks off. Nairobi Innovation week 2018 commenced on 5th to 9th March 2018 at the University of Nairobi (UoN). The theme for the Innovation Week is Innovating for a Better Tomorrow.

Pitches by innovators are ongoing as well as bootcamps, hackathons, workshops and exhibitions. Tomorrow, Wednesday 7th March 2018, there will be an official launch followed by exhibitions, panel discussions, keynote presentations and workshops.

At the College of Biological and Physical Sciences (CBPS), IBM Cloud Bootcamp started on Monday 5th March 2018. Ms. Damaris Mwithiga, facilitator at the bootcamp said that the training was to equip people in the ICT field with skills on Cloud Application Development.

Brian Indimuli, a lecturer from Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) said that he is attending the training so as to gain knowledge that he can impart his students. Indimuli emphasized that it is important to attend such tech-trainings, so as to keep up with the advancements happening in the technological field.

While the Bootcamp was a side-event happening at Chiromo Campus, other events happening at Main Campus, UoN, include Nairobi Innovation Week (NIW) startups pitching and hackathons. Among the hackathon is mobile app ideas revolving around persons with disabilities and a workshop on angel investing masterclass.
