Graduates Bag Awards in Annual University Prize Giving Day

Being an excellent academic student will not just earn you a degree at the end of your academic life, but it will also earn you recognition and an award, if not many awards. These awards range from financial awards, to gold medals, internships and certificates.

16 graduates emanating from College of Biological and Physical Sciences, University of Nairobi have been recognized for their outstanding academic excellence.

First class honors’ and overall student in the College in 2013/2014, Elias Ndaru Kivuti, bagged three awards from: Gandhi Smarak Nidhi Trustee Fund, Unilever Kenya Limited and University of Nairobi Alumni Association.

Mr. Ndaru, an Industrial Chemistry graduate, collectively received a financial award of Ksh. 30,000  for attaining best final year student in the School of Physical Science (SPS).

Ndaru also received an award from Unilever for being the best final year student in SPS and an award from UoN Alumni Association for attaining best overall student in the College of Biological and Physical Sciences.

The companies which awarded prizes to CBPS graduates from academic years 2013-2015 include: National Oil Corporation,Unilever Kenya Limited, Twiga Chemicals Limited and Kenya Meteorological Society. University of Nairobi Alumni Association also awarded the excelling graduates.

Individuals and foundations who gave awards to the graduates include:  Prof. Godwin .O. Patrick Obasi Award and Dr. Joseph R. Mukabana, MBS Award.

The 16 graduates are among 418 graduates awarded by at least 80 institutions, trusts, foundations and individuals, at the Annual University of Nairobi Prizing Giving Day held in April 27, 2018.  

The most prestigious award of a gold medal in 2018 for the best overall student in the whole University with the highest proficiency in both academic and extracurricular activities went to Pharmacy students: Katu Mutungi and Peter Njenga Njoroge.

In CBPS, the highest number of awards, four awards, were received by one of the former students, Ang’u Cohen.

Ang’u received four accolades from one organisation and three individuals.

The Meteorology graduate received an excellence award for the best final year student from Kenya Meteorological Society, best overall student in the Department of Meteorology from Prof. Godwin .O. Patrick Obasi Award, best overall student in Dynamic Meteorology in the Department of Meteorology and best overall research project student in the Department of Meteorology, both from Dr. Joseph R. Mukabana, MBS Award. Ang’u accumulately received a financial token of Ksh. 21,000 and a certificate.

On the other hand, Ms. Elizabeth Sunguti, Bachelor of Science in Meteorology graduate, also bagged a certificate and a financial award of Ksh. 20,000.

Ms. Sunguti received an award from Kenya Meteorological Society for attaining best final year student in Bsc Meteorology. Sunguti also received an award for best overall student in the Department of Meteorology from Prof. Godwin .O. Patrick Obasi Award. Finally she was awarded with best overall student in Dynamic Meteorology in the Department of Meteorology from Dr. Joseph R. Mukabana, MBS Award.

Other awardees spanned from Bachelor of Science in Computing and Informatics (School of Computing and Informatics), Bachelor of Science in Statistics (School of Mathematics), Bachelor of Science in Environmental Conservation and Natural Resource Management (School of Biological Sciences) and Bachelor of Science in Geology (School of Physical Sciences).

University of Nairobi Prize Giving Day is an annual event where outstanding students from various disciplines receive awards from different organisations.
