781 Graduate from CBPS at UoN 51st Graduation Ceremony

The University of Nairobi today, Friday 29th August 2014, conferred 5,090 graduands at its 51st graduation ceremony where College of Biological and Physical Sciences, College of Architecture and Engineering, College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences and College of Education and External Studies students were graduating.

For the second time in a row, College of Biological and Physical Sciences (CBPS) was delighted to churn out the best overall student.  Elias Ndaru, a Bachelor of Science Industrial Chemistry student, attained the highest score, a GPA of 83.15.

Out of 5,090 graduands, CBPS produced 781 graduands undertaking 51 different Biological and Physical science courses. These are 25 Masters Degrees, 14 Undergraduate degrees, 3 Postgraduate programs, 8 Doctor of Philosophy degrees and 1 Diploma course.

The guest of honour during the event, Prof. Kaimenyi, Cabinet Secretary Education, Science and Technology, who was represented by,Senior Assistant Director, Mr.Walter Malenya , said that the University of Nairobi (UoN) continues to be a center of excellence and this is clearly proven by the recent impressive webometric ranking. UoN was ranked 1st position in Eastern Africa, Position 9 in Africa and Position 907 in the whole world.

Chancellor University of Nairobi, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi, relished the remarkable progress made by the University to develop and expand its academic and social space. She also charged the University to be self-sufficient to develop and improve infrastructure and expand its academic and social space so as to create a conducive environment for scholars.

 While addressing the graduands, Vice Chancellor UoN Prof. George Magoha, informed the graduands on the new facilities currently being constructed; UoN towers, and the ongoing projects at the College of Health Sciences and Kisumu Campus. He also disclosed the need to engage public-private-partnerships to put up hostels to cater for the rising demand for higher education.

Also speaking during the graduation, Dr. Idle Farah Chairman UoN Council, said that there is need to be innovative as demands for higher education increase. Innovation will enable the University get more students and establish more programmes, by maintaining and enhancing the high quality of education and training, to enable the University produce wholesome graduates with a marketability edge

The graduands were urged to push forth in their dreams and to uphold all they have learnt to serve Kenyans with diligence.
